Guide
About this work estimate template
Builders, plumbers, electricians, painters, carpenters and repair shops all quote the same way: materials plus labour, with terms. This estimate lists both, shows an estimated total, and sets out the start date, payment stages, who supplies materials, warranty and how much the final price may vary. The client signs the approval line, so the job starts with an agreed price.
How to fill in this estimate
- 1
Click "Edit online" to open the Excel version, or download the Word or Excel file.
- 2
Add your business name, the client's name and the site address.

- 5
Save as PDF, send it to the client, and start work once they sign the approval line.
Tips for winning estimates
Split materials and labour
Clients trust estimates they can read line by line, and it is easier to adjust when they change the spec.
Set a validity date
Material prices change. A 15–30 day validity protects your margin.
State the variance
Say how much the final bill may differ (e.g. 10%) and that larger changes need written approval.
Turn it into an invoice
When the job is done, copy the lines into our simple invoice template.
