About this rent receipt template
A rent receipt is the landlord's written proof that rent was paid. Tenants need it for disputes, deposit refunds and, in some countries, tax or house rent allowance (HRA) claims; landlords need it for their records. This template prints a landlord copy and a tenant copy on one page, with the tenant's name, amount in figures and words, rental period, property address and payment method.
How to fill in a rent receipt

Enter the receipt number, date, tenant name and the amount in figures and words.

Fill in the property address and the period the rent covers.

Break down rent, maintenance and utilities if they are paid together, and note any balance due.

Print, sign both copies (add a revenue stamp if your country requires one), cut along the line and give the tenant their copy.
Tips for rent receipts
One receipt per payment
Issue a receipt for every payment, even partial ones, and note the balance due.
Revenue stamps
In some countries, cash receipts above a certain amount need a revenue stamp to be valid for tax claims. Check the local limit.
Landlord PAN or tax ID
For HRA claims in India, the landlord's PAN is needed when yearly rent exceeds the set limit. Add it under the landlord's name.
Keep scans
Scan the landlord copies each month and merge them into one PDF for the year.
