About this career change cv template
When you change careers, a normal CV works against you: the first thing a recruiter sees is a job title from a different field. A career change CV fixes that with a hybrid layout. Your profile says where you are going, a transferable skills section shows proof from your old job that matters in the new one, and recent training comes before your work history. The sample is a teacher moving into customer success.
How to write a career change CV
- 1
Open it with "Edit online", or download the Word file.
- 2
Put your target job first in the title line, and your old role after it.
- 3
Pick 3 skills the new job needs and give one real example of each from your current work.
- 4
List courses, certificates and volunteer projects in the new field.
- 5
Keep work history short and focused on results, then save as PDF.
Tips for changing careers
Translate your old job
Use the new field's words: "onboarded new teachers" becomes onboarding, "parent meetings" becomes relationship management.
Show you are serious
A recent certificate or a small real project tells employers the move is planned, not a whim.
Explain it in the cover letter
One short paragraph on why you are changing, and why now, answers the question before it is asked.
Aim one step sideways
Roles close to your old field (a teacher into training or customer success) are easier to land than a complete jump.
