About this service agreement template
Scope creep and late payments are the two biggest problems freelancers and small agencies face, and both start with a vague agreement. This contract fixes the scope and deliverables, the fee and payment schedule, how many revisions are included, who owns the work, and how either side can end it. It suits web design, marketing, writing, consulting, IT support and most other services.
How to fill in this service agreement
- 1
Click "Edit online", or download the Word file.
- 2
Enter the client and provider names, addresses and the date.
- 3
Describe the services and deliverables precisely; vague scope is the main cause of disputes.
- 4
Set the fee, the payment schedule (e.g. 50% upfront), the number of revisions and the timeline.
- 5
Save as PDF and have both parties sign before work starts.
Tips for freelance contracts
Take a deposit
An upfront payment of 30–50% filters out unserious clients and covers your early work.
Limit revisions
Two rounds of revisions is common. Extra rounds are billed, which keeps feedback focused.
Ownership on payment
Transfer ownership only when you are paid in full. It is your strongest protection against non-payment.
Invoice on milestones
Send an invoice at each milestone. Our freelancer invoice template matches this contract.
