Guide

About this canadian resume template

Canadian resumes look like American ones — Letter paper, no photo, date of birth, marital status or Social Insurance Number — but employers give extra weight to volunteer experience, bilingual skills and, for newcomers, Canadian credential equivalents. This template includes a core-competencies grid, a volunteer section and a line for your credential assessment. The sample is for a project coordinator in Toronto.

Tips for a Canadian resume

Volunteer experience counts

Canadian employers value it, especially for newcomers building local experience.

Use Canadian spelling

"Colour", "centre", "labour", but "organize". Set your spell-checker to English (Canada).

Translate your credentials

A WES or other credential assessment helps employers understand foreign degrees.

Show French if you have it

Bilingual English/French is a real advantage, especially in Ottawa, Quebec and New Brunswick.
